The Unpopular Opinions Tag 2.0 // all the rants

Hey everyone! Today I randomly decided to do this tag again. Because it’s fun to get salty from time to time! This is the original creator. Many thanks to her for creating it! So without further ado, let’s get started!

Disclaimer: These are all just my personal opinions and this post isn’t meant to offend anyone personally.

A popular book or series that you didn’t like

I have four examples for this prompt. let’s start with the one I most recently read, The Catcher in the Rye. This is a hyped classic and frankly, I don’t see the point of this entire book. I know it’s a character study, I know that. I absolutely hated the main character though. The thing is, this is a book about a teenager, but most teens don’t seem to enjoy it. I have only seen very positive reviews from older people. That’s stupid in my opinion.

I found Crown of Midnight soooooooooooo boring. It dragged and I even saw the big plot twist at the end coming. I’ve given up on this series.

The Bone Season was such a really slow read for me! There was way too much info dumping in the first 200 pages or so and it made me 1) really confused and 2) bored. I thought about DNF’ing this book several times, but almost everyone seemed to love this book, so I powered through to see why. Near the end it got better, but not enough to redeem itself.

Ink is another disappointment. The cover was stunning and it was a quick read, but that’s about it. It was SUPER predictable. I literally saw everything coming from a mile away. I didn’t like the romance either. It was unrealistic and kind of creepy.

A popular book or series that every one else seems to hate but you love

I don’t have an answer for this, so let me just recommend you some underrated books!

A love triangle where the main character ended up with the person you did NOT want them to end up with (warn ppl for spoilers) OR an OTP that you don’t like

SPOILERS FOR HEIR OF FIRE BY SARAH J. MAAS

Rowan and Celaena from Throne of Glass. They’re so bad for each other! Why do people ship them??? Mind you, I’ve only read the first three books in the series. So I wouldn’t know if it gets better. I have heard it doesn’t though…

A popular book genre that you hardly reach for

Thrillers, Horror, Erotica, Adult Fantasy, Magical Realism

A popular or beloved character that you do not like

I never understood the hype around Ginny from the Harry Potter series. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate her. She just doesn’t do much for me. Maybe the books are too vague in my mind. I can only think of movie Ginny. I also don’t particularly like Luna. I get why people like her and I don’t have a problem with her. I guess she just a bit too whimsical for me.

A popular author that you can’t seem to get into

Rainbow Rowell, Jennifer Niven, Julie Murphy, J.D. Salinger, J.R.R. Tolkien, Samantha Shannon and Emma Donoghue amongst others.

A popular book trope that you’re tired of seeing. (examples “lost princess”, corrupt ruler, love triangles, etc.)

I still hate the ‘broody, mean, bad guy that’s so mysterious, had a bad childhood and actually has a soft side’ trope. I hate that so many girls fall in love with that type of guy even though he still treats them like shit. WHY?????

A popular series that you have no interest in reading

Just to name a few.

The saying goes “The book is always better than the movie”, but what movie or T.V. show adaptation do you prefer more than the book?

My standard answer for this one is The Hobbit. The films were dragged out as well. But the book was such a struggle to get through that I even DNF’ed it! I almost never do that, so it’s saying a lot.

  1. I never tire of seeing this tag is so much fun. I’m happy to see that you can’t get into Rainbow Rowell’s books neither, I feel less lonely now 😅
