Hey! I finished Gemina yesterday and I highly enjoyed it. Today I’m coming at you with a non-spoiler review.
Moving to a space station at the edge of the galaxy was always going to be the death of Hanna’s social life. Nobody said it might actually get her killed.
The sci-fi saga that began with the breakout bestseller Illuminaecontinues on board the Jump Station Heimdall, where two new characters will confront the next wave of the BeiTech assault.
Hanna is the station captain’s pampered daughter; Nik the reluctant member of a notorious crime family. But while the pair are struggling with the realities of life aboard the galaxy’s most boring space station, little do they know that Kady Grant and the Hypatia are headed right toward Heimdall, carrying news of the Kerenza invasion.
When an elite BeiTech strike team invades the station, Hanna and Nik are thrown together to defend their home. But alien predators are picking off the station residents one by one, and a malfunction in the station’s wormhole means the space-time continuum might be ripped in two before dinner. Soon Hanna and Nik aren’t just fighting for their own survival; the fate of everyone on the Hypatia—and possibly the known universe—is in their hands.
But relax. They’ve totally got this. They hope.
For starters, I love how different this book is from most. The mixed media gives it another layer and it’s great! I did think that there where more pages of ‘normal’ text than in Illuminae, but I’m not sure. It’s been 8 months since I read it.
Now let’s talk about the plot. It was so fast-paced and action-packed! I loved it. I didn’t want to put the book down at any moment. I read over three hundred pages of it in the same day! I must say that the plot was rather similar to Illuminae. I didn’t mind as it was a long time ago that I read it and there was enough that was different. I wouldn’t suggest reading these back to back though.
When it comes to characters, there are three I want to discuss. I needed some time to get to know Hanna and Nik better. At first I didn’t really like them, but in the end I really did. I loved how badass they were. The one character that was my favourite was Ella. I loved her from the start. She was badass, sassy, funny and good-hearted. Amazing! I liked the romance in the book and I do ship it. Still, I think it was a bit too fast.
Overall, I loved this! I couldn’t put it down. So, I gave this 4.5 to 5 out of 5 stars. Would definitely recommend!
I kept this review short and sweet. I hope you liked it!
