Hey! I finished a book today and now I have no idea what I want to pick up next. I have four books on my TBR at the moment so I decided to do the ‘try a chapter tag’ to help me figure out what I’m in the mood for. The tag was originally done by Malia over at BookParadise on Youtube. Let’s get started!
My options are:
- Woesten by Kris Van Steenberge
- The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
- Born a crime by Trevor Noah
- Furthermore by Tahereh Mafi
These are four completely different books. Woesten is a WW I historical fiction novel about a boy with a deformed face. The Catcher in the Rye is a classic and to be honest I don’t really know what it’s about. Born a crime is an autobyography about Trevor Noah who grew up in South Africa’s Apartheid. And lastly, Furthermore is a middle grade book about a colourless girl in a colourful world.
After trying a few pages of each book, this is what I thought!
I am intrigued. The setting (a small village in Flanders just before WW I) and the characters are interesting so far. The writing style feels somewhat old, but that fits with the story.
The Catcher in the Rye
I’m hooked. I enjoyed the first few pages way more than I thought I would. I really like the writing style. It feels as if the main character is actually talking to you.
Born a crime
So far this is good. I stopped before the anecdote truly started and now I’m intrigued as to what happened. I will definitely come back to this.
This was whimsical. The introduction was nice and there is still a lot more to discover about the world. Yet I don’t think this book is for me. I was just really confused. I don’t think I’ll pick this up again.
After reading a chapter of all of these, I was most hooked by The Catcher in the Rye and Born A Crime. I decided to go for ……
Born a Crime by Trevor Noah!
I have to concentrate a lot more while reading The Catcher in the Rye because the English is not what I’m used to. Since I’m in the middle of my exams, I decided to choose the other book that peaked my interest and to come back later to The Catcher in the Rye.
I hope you enjoyed this post! I’ll let you know what I thought of Born a crime afterwards. Thanks for reading. See you next time!
