I’m back with another reading update for the Bout of Books Readathon! You can find my TBR here and my first update here. For more info on the readathon, check out the Twitter page! So without further ado, let’s get started!
On Wednesday I read another 130 pages of The Dark Prophecy by Rick Riordan. I really enjoyed it.
The next day I finished the book. Overall I gave it four out of five stars. As with all of Rick Riordan’s books, I loved the writing style, the humour and the adventurous plot. I didn’t like this book as much as The Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, the Heroes of Olympus series or the Magnus Chase and The Gods of Asgard series. That is because of the main character, Apollo. It makes a lot of sense that he is vain and thinks he is better / more important than everyone. With him being an ex-god and all, I think it’s a good characterization. That doesn’t mean it’s not annoying though.
I also picked up The Monstrous Child by Francesca Simon and I read 50 pages of that.
Yesterday, the fifth day of the readathon, I finished The Monstrous Child. I gave it three out of five stars. I liked the writing style and the mythology aspect of the story. I liked how quick it read. I enjoyed it. With that being said though, I did have some problems with it. I found the main character whiny, hateful and bitter. I often didn’t agree with her actions. I also couldn’t get on board with the love interest. Hel falls in love with a married man and she wants to steal him from his wife. That was very disrespectful and I just couldn’t get on with it. It never comes to him cheating, but still.
That’s what I read the past three days. I’ll come with another update soon! See you next time!
