Top five Tuesday

Top ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The broke & the bookish . As you’ve probably noticed I titled this post top five Tuesday, that’s because I could only come up with five answers to this week’s prompt. This week the prompt is ‘Books you are thankful for’. So without further ado, let’s do this!

1. Geronimo and Thea Stilton.

I’m thankful for these books because they are the books that got me into reading. My parents used to read to me, but these were some of the first books I read on my own. All the characters are mice, but they act like humans. I really like them. The stories are exciting, I learned new things and there is a lot of diversity. I also really like the lay – out. There are a lot of illustrations and the text is also illustrated. Some of the words have a different lay-out that fits with their meaning. I don’t know if these books are available in English, but I hope so, because I really like them.

2. The fault in our stars by John Green.

I’m thankful for this book because it helped me through a hard time. I read it when my img_20160815_114051grandmother had just died from cancer. She went through a very long battle against pancreas cancer and even though the doctors said she was a miracle ( After her diagnosis they predicted she would still have about six months, instead she lived for another five years. ) , eventually she did die and it was hard. Reading this story really helped me. I still cry every time I reread the book or watch the movie. Cancer patients are more than just their illness and that’s the way they are portrayed in this book and I’m very grateful for that. So thank you, John Green!

3. The hunger games trilogy by Suzanne Collins

I’m thankful for these books because they introduced me to YA. I read these books because my brother recommended them to me and I adored them. I remember finishing The hunger games in one afternoon. These books are about some much more than just the fight to the death and I’m grateful it made me thinking. These were the first YA books I read and I was hooked to YA from to moment I read these books.

4. The selection series by Kiera Cass

tbyfvI’m thankful for these books because they cheered me up when I was feeling a bit down. This year I had surgery and after that I had to stay in bed for a week and I didn’t see my friends and I was bored a lot, but at the same time I was reading this series, the first four books to be precise. I loved them. I know they are very corny and the romance isn’t very realistic. I know America can be annoying at times, but still, I loved them. The crown came out two months later and it was the first book I really anticipated. I was counting down the days untill my birthday, because I knew I would get it as a gift. (My birthday was about a week after the american release date, but almost at the same time as the Belgian release date. ) and I am really grateful for both of the experiences.

and last, but not least…

5. We are all made of molecules by Susin Nielsen.

I’m thankful for this book because it introduced me to Stewart.img_20161005_192432 I loved this character. Stewart is one of two MC’s in this book and I adore him. He’s sweet, nice to everyone, he tries his best to adapt to his new situation and he’s highly intelligent. I really enjoyed that, because I’m highly intelligent myself and this was the first book I’ve read with a highly intelligent main character. Most of the time I don’t pick up books with a HI main character, because they are portrayed without any friends, as if you can’t have friends because you’re intelligent. This really bothers me, but this book is different. Stewart did have friends. He wasn’t popular, but the ‘cool kids’ were super mean to everyone, so he didn’t even want to be popular (just like me.) I’m grateful for reading about him.

And that’s it! I hope you enjoyed this post!

Love,
Eva
